I love when a new season hits the high street, but considering the Spring/Summer ranges can arrive as early as the end of January, it can be hard to stay on trend when the weather outside is dismal.
However, not to fear! Some of the key trends this SS14 can be easily integrated into your regular wardrobe. Two top trends have quite a presence this season; pastels and monochrome/minimal luxe.
Pastel pink, yellow and blue seem to be easily blended into the wardrobe of the ‘every woman’, so are a good choice when watching the pennies too. The addition of the pastel coat instantly brightens up an outfit and brings it straight into spring.
Do not be put off by the bold statement such a garment would make – the key is teaming with complementary colours and experimenting with what works best for you. I champion the pastel blue shade and find teaming it with whites, greys, pinks or golds can create a look fresh for spring. The hottest retailers for these include Topshop, Zara and also Missguided.
If you can’t quite put your winter coat away just yet, a pastel blouse or even an accessory will also have a similar effect. An oversized pastel bag alone will re-vamp your outfit with that spring touch, regardless of the fact you are sporting your favourite parka.
Monochrome, or minimal luxe, is all about the black and white minimalist look, sometimes coupled with a hint of grey or metallic. Make a statement with a crisp white skirt teamed with a black sweater or long sleeve tee. If you aren’t quite prepared to get your pins out, perhaps try a monochrome pair of trousers instead.
These are particular effective when you use a block colour scheme (such as plain white teamed with plain black), but do not be afraid to indulge in prints too. The dogtooth print also works when trying to achieve a monochrome look. The simplicity of this trend allows it to be accessorised with bolder items and statement pieces.
Adding a chunky metallic necklace can transform your daywear into an outfit perfect for cocktails with the girls. For the savvy shoppers, your statement LBD can also be worked into this trend too. A metallic clutch would go perfectly with your LBD to create a minimalistic outfit, but could still transform your look into that of a glam spring night out. Result!
The key thing with both of these looks: what works best for you! Try out multiple combinations to find what you feel comfortable in. You don’t need to go out head to toe in monochrome to achieve a spring look – the smallest addition can freshen up your winter wear.
