The talent show, whose previous winners include Ashleigh & Pudsey and Diversity, sees participants show off their talents to judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams.

For students at the University of Lincoln, the news that the national TV show will visit the city comes as a surprise.

Emma Humphryson, who studies psychology, said: “I think it’s a great opportunity for people of all ages to have an opportunity to show their talents without having to travel too far to do so.”

Michaela Ormrod, a journalism student, agrees: “Lincoln is a student-based city due to the university so it gives students a chance to show off their talents without having to pay the expensive train fares.

“It will bring publicity to Lincoln and I think it will bring the community together to support each other,” she added.

The auditions will see applicants perform in front of producers. The location has yet to be revealed.
