On the lookout for a new place to get your daily caffeine-fix? Our lifestyle writer, Lene Utklev Gaupen has shared her favourite coffee shops in Lincoln:

Coffee, the aromatic, gorgeous drink enjoyed by millions all over the world. If you are anything like me, you probably have at least one (going on three) cups a day.

Whether you are a sleep-deprived student, a hard working 9-5 in need of that extra lunchtime kick or just simply enjoy a hot drink, Lincoln has a wide variation of café and restaurants to provide your needs.

Perhaps you are looking to expand a bit, put the usual chain-shops on the shelf for a while – when they stop asking for your name, and just write it instead, it might be time.

So, without further ado, and in no specific order, here’s some of Lincoln’s coffee places you really need to check out:

Angel Coffee House

The Angel Coffee House’s aim is pretty straightforward: “To be the friendliest independent coffee shop in town”. If you have already been there, I think you will agree that they have pretty much reached that goal ages ago. The cute little café got delicious coffee, and food and cakes to match, but one of its biggest charms is the interior as well as the beautiful location. Although a bit on the small side when speaking of seating arrangement inside, the coffee house makes up for this with plenty of outside seating space.

Coffee Aroma

By now the number of students not aware of Coffee Aroma is probably in the minor, but nevertheless a café-list in Lincoln isn’t complete without this cosy café. A big plus, you get a free shot of espresso with any coffee purchase when ordering in.

Stingy student top tip: keep an eye out for someone out on stilts, usually during freshers’ week as that’s your chance to be a good economical student and get yourself a 20% discount leaflet.

Basecamp Coffee

Okay yes, I know. It is up Steep Hill, but only halfway! And honestly, you will not regret making the trip. Formerly known as Makushi Coffee Roasters, this cute café micro roast all their “sustainably sourced, traceable, high quality, single origin” coffee beans right there in the building. With great food, amazing hot chocolate and the friendliest staff, Basecamp Coffee is a gem of a café. If you are sitting in and the weather allow it, be sure to check out their lovely roof garden.

Zing Café Bar

Close to home (if you are a student) Zing Cafè Bar is easy to be overlooked, especially during an intense library session where you would rather get your fix from the coffee shop downstairs instead of actually leaving the building. Zing is more affordable offering a 20% student discount on both coffee and cakes when showing your student ID. If you are a fan of the sweeter stuff, check out their Coffee Bianca, a white mocha that is so far one of the best I have found in Lincoln.
