A 25-year-old man has been arrested by armed police on the University of Lincoln’s campus.
Reports surfaced online after officers surrounded the individual near the Engine Shed and University Library on Wednesday morning.
In a statement, Lincolnshire Police said: “We have arrested one man, aged 25, near to the Engine Shed, Lincoln this morning, on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police.
“We have had a lot of resources in the area and this has caused some alarm.
“Apologies for this, we should be leaving the area soon.”
Update: Lincolnshire Police have released a further statement about the arrest near the University Library.
It reads: “We are seeing reports that a man was seen with a handgun at the University this morning. These reports are incorrect.
“We have arrested a 25 year old man on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police, he was not carrying any weapons and there is no one else involved in this incident.”
Update: The University of Lincoln has since issued a statement to staff and students about the incident.
“There was a police presence on campus earlier today outside of the library whilst armed officers handled an incident.
“Lincolnshire Police have now confirmed that they arrested one man, aged 25, on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police. They have now left the area.
“We are grateful for the patience and understanding of staff and students,” it reads.
