The University of Lincoln’s Students’ Union has published a statement on British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) funding, after the university’s Rugby League team had its funding withdrawn by the SU.
In a post on social media on Wednesday night, the team said the club will be “unlikely to be able to continue” without the money from the Union.
Lincoln SU have since announced that there were 44 applications for BUCS funding, with all submissions “carefully considered” by their Participation Sub Committee.
“Following the Policy Funding procedure, the Student Led Participation Sub Committee have decided which clubs will receive BUCS funding this year, within the available funds and based on a pre-determined and published set of criteria that all clubs are aware of,” they said.
The statement then went on to add that all SU clubs can appeal against the decision of the Participation Sub Committee, using the Policy Funding Procedure.
The Rugby League club announced on Wednesday that they would launch an appeal, with the hope that “other funding options could become available” or that the SU’s decision will be reversed.
