Since last year, car vandalism in Lincoln has increased considerably with many vehicles suffering criminal damage such as slashed tires, smashed windows and destroyed windscreens.
Due to this rise, Lincolnshire police are urging the public to be careful when parking their cars and to be aware of the risks when doing so on public streets.
The majority of the incidents to vehicles have happened down West Parade and Carholme road which has reported to have taken place in September and is continuing to happen. However, although reports have been made, due to the lack of CCTV and any witnesses of the incidents the police are unable to do anything.
Simon Cotton, the representative of Communications and Public Affairs said: “We would urge victims to report any such crime as even if we cannot solve that particular case, it will help us build up an intelligence picture and may help to solve other crimes.”
Many of the victims are found to be students of the University of Lincoln as the majority of the crimes happened on streets which are primarily student housing.
One of the victims, a student from the University said: “My neighbour told me it happened Friday 12th October around 22:30-23:00 because she heard it but never saw anything. I actually found it on the Sunday after that, contacted police and they wrote a crime report on it, but told me they were unable to do anything due to no CCTV or witnesses.”
The police advise residents to look out for any suspicious behaviour around vehicles at any time and to call 101 if they have any concerns.
