People attending Engine Shed events will be using “bespoke” reusable cups as the venue announced the banning of single-use plastic ones.
The University of Lincoln Students’ Union says it has made the decision following the city’s council declaring a climate emergency last month.
It means that Engine Shed-goers will now be paying a two pounds deposit for a “themed” cup – with a standard design available as well as a range of limited ones throughout the year.
The two pounds can then be claimed back at the end of the night if the cup is returned to the bar.
It comes after the union banned plastic straws at all its venues, which also include The Swan and Tower Bar, last year.
The new cups will be made of polypropylene.
The union says that “students today are more conscious of environmental issues” and that it hopes other venues will follow suit.
