Lincoln’s Lindum Cricket Club has raised over £20,000 in a crowdfunding effort for new facilities.
The cricket club began the fundraising campaign in order to raise enough money to renovate the club’s nets and training facilities.
Lindum CC Vice-chairman, Wes Shelbourne, organised the fundraiser. Speaking to LincSport, he said: “The campaign brought everyone together. Raising £20,000 in just under four weeks is absolutely amazing.”
He added: “It has taken lots of people, putting in lots of effort. We’ve had donations from individuals and Sport England.”
The aim of the campaign was to raise £20,000 by September 15th, but the target was hit well in advance, over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.
This has led the club to increase the fundraiser goal to £25,000, in hopes of further improving the facilities.
Wes said: “The new nets will be a lot safer and help both current and new players.” He believes everyone stands to benefit from the new training facilities.
The plans will increase the number of nets from two to three, add a gate and additional training space.
“The current nets are old and tired. They aren’t fit for purpose. The new nets will make a huge difference and attract new players to the club.”
Over 150 people have donated to the club’s Crowdfunder page so far. It remains open until September 15th.
He said: “It shows what can be achieved when people come together for a common goal.”
It’s been a successful week for Lindum CC, who saw their 2nd XI clinch the league title and promotion to the Lincolnshire County Premier Division on the same weekend as the fundraiser target was met.
