The City of Lincoln has secured the 3rd position in the NatWest Student Living Index 2023. The annual report, which assesses the cost of living and overall quality of life for students across the UK, underscores Lincoln’s appeal as a higher education destination that offers a harmonious blend of affordability and quality of life.

The NatWest Student Living Index evaluates the student experience in various cities across the UK. This year’s index, which analyzed data from 37 different universities, considers multiple factors, including accommodation costs, utility bills, transport expenses, and access to leisure and entertainment options.

While Lincoln, and therefore The University of Lincoln, might not have clinched the top spot in the index, securing the third position is a significant accomplishment given the fierce competition among universities to attract students based on affordability and overall quality of life.

Costs are only one of many factors that the NatWest Student Living Index takes into account.

A University of Lincoln spokesperson said; “This is good news for students wanting to come to the University and shows what good value Lincoln is. We hope this, along with our Cost-of-Living Hub support (https://costofliving.lincoln.ac.uk/), reassures students who might be reluctant to come to University because of the current economic climate that Lincoln is a great option for them.”

Lincoln’s third-place ranking can be attributed to several factors. One key element is the relatively lower cost of student accommodation compared to other university cities. The city boasts a range of affordable housing options, from university-owned residences to private rentals, making it easier for students to find suitable and budget-friendly places to live.

2nd-year University of Lincoln architecture student Chris Oladipo, 20, expressed his satisfaction with the university’s affordability and overall experience, saying, “Lincoln has struck a great balance between affordability and quality of life. I’ve been able to focus on my studies and enjoy my time here without worrying too much about my expenses.”

The NatWest Student Living Index also highlighted Lincoln’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere as a contributing factor to its high ranking. The city’s rich history, cultural events, and its proximity to picturesque countryside all contribute to making Lincoln an attractive destination for students.
