Lincoln City’s new recruit Joe Taylor looks ahead to his first game in an Imps shirt as they travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire‘s Michael Hortin, he said: “I think as a footballer you always want to play at the top and for me to make that next step into League One is something that I just couldn’t turn down.”

Taylor is one of two new Lincoln recruits so far in the January window, following the completing of Jack Moylan‘s move from the League of Ireland.

It comes alongside Freddie Draper’s recall from his loan at League Two Walsall.

Speaking to LincSport, he said: “For me it’s about game time and I know here with the striking injuries that we’ve got there is definitely an opportunity for me to play games here.”

He added: “I’ve settled in really well, the boys are a really easy bunch to get along with.”

Taylor has scored 12 goals so far this season, spending it on loan at League Two strugglers Colchester United.

He shone some light on the process that saw him move from Premier League Luton Town to the Imps, revealing that former Lincoln player and current Luton chief recruitment officer Mick Harford played a part.

“I’ve had conversations with Mick Harford, I’ve had conversations with the gaffer [Michael Skubala] and we thought me coming here and working with the gaffer is a massive opportunity for me to develop my game,” he said.

Taylor will be available as Michael Skubala’s team travel to Wycombe, hoping to end a run of seven games without a win and four straight defeats.

Looking ahead to the game, he said: “I’m looking forward to it. First of all to get my first minutes in a Lincoln shirt… but I think having worked with the boys and looked at them a little bit, and knowing what we’re about, I think it’ll be a really good game.”

He added: “For me, my first target was to hit ten goals and now my second target is to hit 20. Eight more goals is a 20 goal season for me, but obviously I am aiming for more.”
