The route has been announced for Lincoln’s first-ever soapbox race, as homemade creations will race in the city centre.
The event organisers, KrazyRaces, have confirmed that the race will start midway down Spring Hill, take a sharp bend onto Hungate before the soapboxes shoot past the finish line, which will be just after the White Horse pub.
The route is set to the be the steepest yet. It follows events across the country in locations such as Wolverhampton, Stockport, Northwich, Swansea and Lancaster last year.
Speaking to The Linc, organiser Danny Scoffin said: “It’s a route that will accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 people and also accommodate all the teams we’ve got, while still being central.”
The race will feature 40 teams, after all the spots were taken up just three days after the race was announced. A further 40 teams are currently on a waiting list.
Danny said: “It’s the first time that’s ever happened, for us to be well oversubscribed within a week of launching. It shows the real interest in the area for this event. This is unprecedented for us to have double the amount of teams we need within the first week of launching.”
He added: “Lincoln is naturally hilly, so it captures the imagination. People fantasise about zooming down the hill in a little cart.”
He confirmed that there will be activities around the route that will point people towards the High Street, which runs parallel to the planned route.
‘Krazy Races’ is working with Lincoln BIG (Business Improvement Group) to host the event.
Danny added: “We want to engage with the community and businesses. That’s our next stage. We’re all massively excited for what will be our last race of the summer, and what better way to finish the season.”
The event will take place on Sunday, September 15.
