Lincoln City defender Sean Roughan says he is “really enjoying” his football under Michael Skubala, as the Imps prepare to face Exeter City.
The Irishman has started every game since Boxing Day, aside from the New Year’s Day trip to Blackpool.
He said: “I’m really enjoying it. Obviously playing in a position where I like playing, I’m comfortable playing, and where I see my career hopefully a long while more to come.”
“I’m enjoying it, but we’ve got to keep the standard up and try and get better and better each game,” he added.
Roughan is part of a strong City defence. It’s one that has kept three clean sheets in their last six games, conceding only three goals across that good run.
The 20-year-old said: “It’s very good. You’ve seen so many games over the last 18 months where we’ve defensively put bodies on the line for each other, we’ve defended really, really well. We have to keep on doing that. Obviously we’ve conceded three goals, we weren’t happy with those three goals and we’ve got to try and go on now to keep more and more clean sheets before the season comes to an end.”
Exeter City travel to the LNER Stadium off the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat to Derby County on Tuesday, having only lost a single game in their six outings prior to to that. Roughan believes Gary Caldwell’s side possesses the potential to cause danger on Saturday.
He said: “We’ve seen this season and last season, they’re very good going forward, they cause threats. And, defensively they are good as well. So, we’ve got to nullify their attacking ability and go the other end to try and exploit their defence. All of us in the changing room believe we can beat them.”
The Imps will be without Roughan’s defensive partner Adam Jackson for the visit of Exeter, as the 29-year-old is sidelined with a broken nose. Head coach Michael Skubala proposed a timeline for the centre-back’s return, but he is set to be a real miss in the meantime.
“He’s a big, big miss. Playing with Jacko, I’ve been there nearly every second that he’s been there since he signed and I know Jacko really well. He’s an unbelievable defender. He goes so unnoticed. You gain so much experience playing alongside him, he’s always taking to you, he’s always giving you advice,” Roughan said.
