Lincoln City Women's Moorlands Ground

Lincoln City will make the short journey to Ashby Avenue ahead of Sunday’s Lincolnshire FA County Cup semi-final clash against Lincoln United Women.

The two sides faced off against each other in the cup final last season with the score ending 2-0 to Lincoln United. However, with just one loss since New Year’s Day for the Imps, the tie is set to be an exciting watch.

That one loss in 2024 came on a tough day out last Sunday, losing 2-0 to second-placed Boldmere St. Michaels. City will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways once more.

Opposition: Lincoln United Women’s

Lincoln United breezed past Dronfield Town 7-0 on Sunday. Doubles from Lauren Purcher and Olivia Smith meant that United progressed comfortably to the semi-finals of the League Cup.

In the league, Lincoln United remain unbeaten this season, winning all nine games played.

The Imps will have to be solid in defence as Ellie Gilliatt will be looking to extend her current goal tally which stands at 42 goals in just 13 games.

Team News:

Imps manager Lee Mitchell reported a fully fit squad is available for selection against the Whites, and as a result of this is looking forward to Sunday’s derby.

‘‘It should be exciting. Derbies they always are, they go against the grain and it’s all about who brings it on derby day for sure,’’ said Mitchell.

Despite coming off the back of a loss going into Sunday’s semi-final, Mitchell was pleased with the team’s overall performance.

He said: ‘‘They (Lincoln City) were playing out of position and it’s not natural for them so it does make a big difference. So, we changed things very quickly and from after the 25-minute mark where we put players where their strengths are we challenged as well as we did against Loughborough.’’

City defender Ella Thompson-Moulding believes her side are ready to make things right after last seasons disappointing result versus the Whites.

She said: ‘‘I don’t think we turned up on that day really, I think the girls would be honest about that. So, we definitely need to bring that fight, the sort of revenge aspect from last season of putting it right and take it into this game to get the win.’’

Head-to-Head:

The two Lincoln sides met in last year’s County Cup, with United coming away with the trophy. Lee Mitchell’s City will be hoping to reverse last season’s result and reach a second consecutive Lincolnshire cup final.
