Lindum Hockey secured back-to-back promotions on Sunday, creating yet more history for Lincolnshire’s premier club.
The Lincoln-based side became the first in the county’s history to reach the second tier of English hockey, after becoming the first to reach the third tier last season.
Captain Rob Johnstone and scorer of Sunday’s opening goal, Ben Read, spoke to LincSport after the 4-1 victory over Wakefield.
Captain Rob Johnstone:
Lindum’s first team captain, Rob Johnstone, said it was hard to sum up what the achievement meant for the club. He described it as his “proudest moment” representing the Yellow Submarine and an “immense” season.
Top-scorer Ben Read:
Lindum’s joint top-scorer for the season, Ben Read, got the scoring going, netting inside the opening five minutes on the season’s final day. He said the goal “took the pressure off”, settling the team down to complete the victory.
He finished the league season with a tally of 16 goals, tied with Sam Dixon on Lindum’s goalscoring list.
