The weekend brings a change of scenery as Lincoln City Women, as they host Peterborough United at the LNER Stadium.
The Imps will be looking for an improvement from last weekend’s trip to Sporting Khalsa, which ended in a heavy 7-1 defeat. A win on Sunday, April 7, could put City level on points with seventh placed Sutton Coldfield Town.
Opposition: Peterborough United
Posh took all the points last weekend in a seven-goal thriller against Solihull Moors. Peterborough were 3-1 down at half-time, however a last minute winner from substitute Frankie Pim completed the comeback and ended the scoring at 4-3.
The midlands club will pose a big threat in front of goal, with both Keir Perkins and Tara Kirk on ten goals each and just two goals behind second-top goal scorer Lowri Walker.
Peterborough have a game in hand over third placed Boldmere St Michaels, and a win would see them go two points clear.
Team News:
Imps boss Lee Mitchell said his side are looking forward to switching from Moorlands to the LNER Stadium for today’s game.
He said: ‘‘We always look forward to playing here the players really enjoy it for obvious reasons so you’ve got to enjoy the whole day from start to finish.’’
Despite the excitement of the occasion, he also believes that Peterborough will provide a tough challenge for City.
‘‘They’re a good side and have been up there fighting towards the top all season long so we’re expecting a real tough game, we’re hoping we will give them a good game,’’ stated Mitchell.
It will only be the second time that the Imps have played at Sincil Bank this season, after a dominant victory in the opening game of the season against Notts County.
Full-back Brogan Pugh also said she is looking forward to playing at the LNER Stadium for just the second time in her career. She said: ‘‘I’m really looking forward to it and I think the girls are as well. Being at the home of Lincoln is always really exciting and I think everyone is really looking forward to it.’’
Head-to-Head:
The Imps have found it tricky to find positive results against Posh in the last couple of seasons, as their last win came back in the 2021/22 season. In their last five games, City have won two and lost three against Peterborough United Women.
