Central-midfielder Scott Matthews becomes Lincoln United‘s fourth summer addition ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It follows the announcement that striker Gregg Smith, and defensive duo Henry Moore and Tom Hipwell, have joined The Whites.

Matthews, aged 30, joins from the new management team’s former side Winterton Rangers. He is an experienced non-league operator, having played for a number of clubs, including Barton Town, Belper United and Grantham Town.

The midfielder has even played for Lincoln United before, and returns to the club that has its eyes set on promotion into step four. He is a former left-back, who has transition into the engine room of the pitch.

Speaking to The Linc, Lincoln manager Scott Hellewell described the left-footed midfielder as “athletic”, “a leader”, and “very experienced”. He added: “I think he’ll give us that bit of bite in the centre of the park… he likes to get forward, he’s got a great strike, a great left foot.”

A Fourth New Signing:

Lincoln United’s summer business is fully in swing, with Matthews becoming the fourth to sign on the dotted line for Hellewell’s men.

It comes after the club confirmed on their X (formerly Twitter) account that nine players exited in the club’s retained list, including captain Callum Foster and winger Tobias Liversidge.

The Whites’ pre-season training has already kicked off, in last week’s pouring rain. Their first game of the pre-season schedule is set to take place on Tuesday, July 2, as United travel to Appleby Fordingham.
