Lincoln City Women and Lincoln United Women return to league action after a pair of cup losses in midweek.
The Imps continue their struggles in the early stages of the campaign, while there are positive signs to take for The Whites.
Lincoln City vs Solihull Moors:
Lincoln City are back in league action, as they host Solihull Moors at Gainsborough Trinity’s KAL Group Stadium. The Imps are coming into the game off the back of three successive defeats, in which they have failed to score.
During the week City lost 6-0 to Hull City in the FA Cup determining round. Although the score line was a disappointment, manager Charlotte Dinsdale was happy with the fact her young side kept a clean sheet in the second-half.
Solihull played newly promoted Lincoln United last time out, in a game that ended 1-1. Like City, Solihull are winless so far this season and will be eager to get to winning ways picking up one point so far this term.
Imps boss Dinsdale insists her side know it is going to a ‘tough game’ ahead of their clash with Solihull on Sunday.
She said: “We’re expecting them to come fully prepared but I think we’ve had a midweek game in the cup against Hull and I’d like to think we’ve learnt a lot from that game.”
When asked about her side’s second half performance against Hull City, Dinsdale said: “The heart, the character, the resilience that the girls have shown genuinely I came off at the full-time whistle massively impressed with their reaction.
“We’re hoping we can turn on the tap a little bit for Sunday and give them a really good game.”
Worcester City vs Lincoln United:
Lincoln United travel to Worcester City just three days after taking part in the cup during the week. The Whites were knocked out by Peterborough United, with the game ending 3-0. It is now confirmed they will participate in the FAWNL Plate this season.
The side will be hoping to record their first win of the campaign after being promoted last season.
Worcester are just one of two sides who have failed to earn any points this season. They are winless in the league so far after playing Northampton and Peterborough.
However, the side come into Sunday’s game off the back of a cup win over Cheltenham Town, thanks to a goal from Olivia Mitcham.
Whites boss Ricky Pledger believes his side’s loss to Peterborough midweek did not reflect the performance of his side.
He said: “For 50 minutes we were certainly in that game, switched off with an unfortunate own goal just a rebound off one of our own players, the heads dropped and they scored a quick second.
“We knew it was going to be tough, we knew it was going to be a challenge, obviously they’re a team who are favourites to potentially win the league.”
Both games kick-off at 2pm on Sunday, September 1.
