“It’s always nice to score where I did on that side [of the pitch], when everyone is close that’s really nice”.
That is Lincoln City winger Erik Ring talking about what it means for him to score his first goal for the Imps. He netted the winner in front of the Imps faithful, to secure victory over Northampton Town on Tuesday night.
Ring joined Lincoln from Swedish outfit AIK in the summer and has adjusted well, looking very sharp in moments. But, his first goal will surely give him the boost he needs, know he has opened his account in English football.
City have know won back-to-back games, both 2-1 turnaround at the LNER Stadium, after they lost two games in succession.
The Swedish winger said: “It’s always good to win especially at home we should always be hard to play against, but at home we should always go for the win and that is what everyone should expect.
“We have seen that in all games that the subs have made an impact and it shows that we have a really good squad.”
Three substitutes were involved in Lincoln City’s winner, with Freddie Draper and Jovon Makama linking up before Ring notched his first goal in League One at the back post.
The win on Tuesday put the Imps back into the play-off places with Ring saying, “That’s where we want to be, so it’s nice to be back there and hopefully we stay there for the rest of the season.”
The game turned when Northampton went down to ten men, allowing Lincoln to secure the winner and all three points.
Ring was quizzed about the impact of the Cobblers’ red card, and said to The Linc: “It’s quite normal that when a team gets a red card, they put themselves lower on the pitch and that gives us momentum to put balls in the box and stuff like that so that was the big change to give us momentum again.”
City will now turn their attention to the FA Cup, when they travel to non-league Chesham United in front of the TV cameras.
