Lincoln United Women have announced that manager Chris Funnell has left the club.

The treble winning manager returned to the club last month, on the same day he led them to victory over rivals Lincoln City.

The club made the announcement with “regret”, adding that the hunt for a successor will now begin.

Chris Hough, interim director of women’s football, said: “We have plenty more games to go this season and we don’t just want to be that team who aims to stay in the league.

“We want to strive for the highest possible standards and it’s now our job to ensure we recruit someone to take the reins of the team to drive us forward and achieve those high standards.

“I thank Chris for his short time with us, and wish him all the very best for the future.”

He managed four games in his short-lived return, beating Lincoln City and Sutton Coldfield Town, and losing to Aston Villa Academy and in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town.

The next appointment will be Lincoln United Women’s third manager of the season.
