People in Lincoln have mixed views on the Lincoln Monster Invasion.  The event is part of “The Big Spook”, which features a range of Halloween-inspired activities over the October half-term holiday.

It’s been organised by the Lincoln Business Improvement Group and includes other activities, such as a pumpkin trail in the Bailgate and the Lincoln Ghost Walk.

It comes after the City of Lincoln Council scrapped the Lincoln Christmas Market last year following overcrowding concerns and replaced it with smaller events over the year.  While some people have praised the trail, others said these smaller events are not a replacement for the Lincoln Christmas Market.

Tom Green, who was visiting Lincoln, said: “It’s something interesting to look at, and I think it will be a very fun activity for the children.”

One woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I think it’s a nice thing for the kids but not so much for the adults.”

David Walton, 80, from Lincoln, said: “I think it’s brilliant for the kids and it’s really funny too.”

Peter James, 65, who was visiting Lincoln from Leamington Spar, said: “I would have preferred to have had the Christmas Market, and I think it would have been better for the city. I just think there are better ways to spend money, and this is not a replacement to that.”

Stuart Brown, 49, from Lincoln, said: “We are enjoying them. We really like the colours. We came last year and loved it so much that we’ve come to look at it again.”

The City of Lincoln Council declined to comment and said it was a matter for Lincoln BIG.

Marketing Coordinator for the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln BIG, Courtney Harrison, said: “It’s back and bigger than ever – The BIG Spook 2024!

“Lincoln BIG are hosting a feast of eerie activities for the whole family to enjoy that capture the spirit of the season and bring Halloween to Lincoln. “A vision of an event trailer turned into a reality with the help of Lincoln Ghost Walks, Karen, who voiced this spooky creation.

A huge thank you to Place Immersive and Chris Curtiss for helping me shoot this masterpiece.”
