If you’re stuck with nothing to do on Halloween, then fear not, as Rock Retro’s annual free Halloween gig is back, and this time, it features more bands than ever before.
Armed with the likes of Who’s Misty, Archy & the Astronauts, The Pacers, River Drive and The Colliers, Lincoln’s local music scene will be firing on all cylinders on Halloween night as Vintage Clothing shop Rock Retro promises another night of “cheap drinks, free entry and spoooooky vibes”.
Rock Retro staff member and headlining act Who’s Misty said: “It’s all either local bands or bands that originated here. “This is the most bands we’ve ever had this year.”
The choice to include bands local to the Lincoln Music scene may appear to be done purely out of ease; however, the importance of using local artists is far more significant than it may seem.
Most local artists would agree that Lincoln’s local music scene has been struggling for a while now. Despite plenty of local, talented, hard-working musicians, the one thing missing to make the scene truly alive and thriving is the sense of community behind it all.
Luckily, Rock Retro is on a mission to change that.
Headlining act Who’s Misty said: “We don’t really have a good music scene in Lincoln, so it’s nice to have five bands. They’ll all bring people who are friends or fans, and then they’ll all watch each other’s bands, and it creates that community that we really need in the city.
“If you go somewhere like Nottingham, there’s a massive community there, and we don’t really have that vibe here.”
What Separates this concert from any number of shows at the Engine Shed or the Drill is the intimacy of it all. Concertgoers can look forward to finding themselves only an arm’s reach away from the performing acts with no barricade in the way to separate the two, ultimately providing a much more unifying experience.
“It’s a nice venue; the size and intimacy of it all makes it so different to a gig space”, said Who’s Misty.
Rock Retro is located at 18 Guildhall Street, Lincoln. Doors will open at 7 pm on the 31st of October.
