Lincoln City have ambitions of going far in this year’s Emirates FA Cup, according to assistant head coach Tom Shaw.
The Imps coach has outlined the upcoming clash with Chesham United as one not to be taken lightly, as they go into the game with confidence brewing having back-to-back wins over Stockport County and Northampton Town.
Shaw said: “We will be training across the weekend; we have a really important game, and we have to go there and be incredibly professional to get an FA cup run going.”
Michael Skubala’s side will be hoping to replicate a similar run to the 2016/17 campaign that saw them reach the quarter finals of the competition, taking on sides including Ipswich Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley to turn their Wembley dream into a realistic possibility.
The Imps fell short after missing out to Premier League giants Arsenal, however Lincoln left with their heads held high after becoming the only non-league side to reach the quarter finals of the competition since the current structure was put in place.
Shaw has made it clear that the club have full intentions of going as far as they can this season after acknowledging the recent lack of success in the competition. The Imps have failed to progress from the first round since the ’21/22 season.
He said: “We haven’t done that as a club in recent years so we have a real ambition to go as far as we can in that competition.”
Making the trip to the Meadow on Monday night, Shaw could see the televised game as a good opportunity for the team sat fifth in SkyBet League One to regain their fine away form. They had gone unbeaten in their last 15 all competition games on the road before a shock defeat to Crawley Town last week.
