Lindum Hockey secure back-to-back victories, recording their first home win of the season in the process.
The Yellow Submarine returned to the LSA this week with a win under their belt and left victorious once again after defeating Stourport 3-1.
The Worcestershire-based visitors remain bottom of the league following the loss, with Lindum taking a maximum of six points in their last two games to create some breathing space from them in the Division One North table.
After back-to-back promotions for the Lincoln-based outfit, their start to the season had been a struggle. But, two wins on the trot going into the winter break may be the turning point for the team.
A Positive Start:
Lindum started the game off strong with not one, but two goals, being scored in the first half.
In the first quarter, there were missed chances from both Lindum and Stourport, with neither team making a big impression on the pitch. The visiting Stourport had eight losses from eight games before making the trip up to Lincolnshire.
However, Lindum came into the second quarter strongest, after a goal was swept in by Ben Read in the 25th minute. He finished off a neat penalty corner move, involving both Sam Dixon and Jacob Barnes.
Angus Graham followed that, leaving his team with a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time. He poked the ball beyond goalkeeper Alex Cook after a smart move.
Stourport had only scored 17 goals before Lindum played hosts, with a staggering 13 coming from Simon Claris, who was kept quite in Lincoln.
A Soaring Second-Half:
Stourport were quick to respond to Lindum’s success though, with Joseph Schubert easily tapping one in after clearing Lindum’s defence on the left side.
Lindum did not let this bring them down though, as goalkeeper Dan Garlick saved Stourport’s next chance at a goal just minutes later.
Despite their best efforts, the hosts failed to turn several chances into goals throughout the third quarter, meaning their two-goal cushion created in the first-half remained out of reach.
In the 59th minute, though, Lindum scored their third and final goal of the game with Matt Goodley slapping a loose ball into the back of the net.
With five minutes to go, Lindum stayed on the defensive, with some brilliant stickwork being shown up and down the pitch to secure their first home win of the season.
The Lincoln outfit saw the game out, and managed any potential of an unlikely Stourport comeback to claim victory.
With one game remaining before the winter break, Lindum will hope to end the first part of the season on a high note away to Deeside Ramblers next week.
