Lincoln City return to SkyBet League One action following their FA Cup win at the weekend, as they face Rotherham United.
Under the lights at the Aesseal New York Stadium, the Imps will look to return to winning ways in the league following a 1-0 loss to Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground last Tuesday.
Opposition: Rotherham United
The Millers are struggling to get used to League One football following their relegation from the Championship, as they sit in 19th place, just two points clear of the drop zone. They sit nine points off the visiting Lincoln, and are 10 points behind the final play-off spot currently maintained by South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley
Steve Evans’ side have lost four of their last five games, with one win in between. And, the United manager has called the game a “now or never” moment.
Rotherham will be feeling refreshed though, having not played at the weekend. They had lost 3-1 to Cheltenham Town in the first round of the FA Cup at the start of November.
Team News:
It is all good news for Lincoln City, as they have full progression on the injury front.
Michael Skubala has no new injury concerns following his side’s 4-3 win over Crawley Town, with Reeco Hackett also coming on to play the final 20 minutes following his injury.
Tyler Walker also returned to the matchday squad on Saturday, but his injury has been called “intermittent” by head coach Skubala. The club expect a “back and forth” with the forward before he can make a full return.
In other news, Ben House has returned to training following his illness and is in contention to make the squad for Tuesday night’s clash.
As for Rotherham, Steve Evans has described his team selection as “the best place we’ve seen since the first few days of pre-season”.
Attacker Mallik Wilks and defender Jamie McCart are ready to return from injuries, following their periods on the sidelines.
Head-to-Head:
Tuesday night’s fixture will be the 100th meeting between the two sides, with Rotherham winning over half of those.
The Millers sit pretty on 51 wins, with 26 matches seeing the Imps collect all three points, and 22 draws.
The first meeting between these two sides was in 1926, with City winning 3-1.
It is currently bragging rights for Rotherham, however, as they are unbeaten in their last three, with the most recent being a 2-1 home win in League One action in March 2019.
Played for Both:
Former Lincoln City captain Lee Frecklington spent time at both teams. Between his two stints with the Imps, he featured 169 times, netting just 28 times. Before re-joining City, Frecklington played for Rotherham between 2012 and 2018, appearing 170 times, and wearing the captain’s armband there, too.
Cohen Bramall currently wears the red shirt of Rotherham, but once upon a time wore the red and white of Lincoln City.
The Englishman signed for the Imps from Colchester in February 2021, featuring 46 times in his year and a half spell. He then signed for Rotherham, featuring 85 times and scoring twice. He has played 270 minutes in Rotherham’s last four matches, only missing out in the 2-0 loss to Barnsley.
