Jack Moylan says the Lincoln City squad is as together as they have ever been, after defeat to Bolton Wanderers left the Imps with six games without a win.

The midfielder was speaking after City exited the Vertu Trophy at the round of 16 stage, falling to defeat after another game without a goal.

Jovon Makama’s penalty against Birmingham City is now Lincoln’s only goal in nine hours of football.

Speaking to The Linc, Moylan said: “Life is about taking moments, taking chances, and we haven’t the last three games. If we are going to put things right, we are going to have to take those moments, and I’ll stand up and be the first to admit that I haven’t the last few games.

“We just need something to fall for us, we need to stick together, and that’s the most important thing. That dressing room is together more than it has ever been.”

“We are hurting”:

“It’s tough, it’s really tough. We are hurting in there, it’s not been easy. It’s be hard on the team, the staff, everyone at the club, so we knew it’s not right, and we’re doing our best to put things the way we can,” the Irishman said.

When quizzed by BBC Radio Lincolnshire‘s Rob Makepeace on what the issues were, Moylan candidly said: “In front of goal. I’ll be the first to stand up, I haven’t been good enough in front of goal, I’ve had a lot of chances over the last three games and haven’t taken them.

“So, stick, or abuse, or any criticism should come my way, and I’ll take that no problem. But, as a team, we are trying, we are going forward… I know it’s easy for me to say standing here, but other nights we could get three or four.

“It’s inches, it’s moments, it’s having personality, and we’ve just been lacking that these last few games. We’re hurting, we’re trying our best to put this right.”

Lincoln City low on confidence:

Moylan was asked if confidence was low in the camp, and said: “One win in 16, who wouldn’t be? We are only human. We are footballers, we are paid to do this, we should be doing better, who know that in there. No one is having a laugh, we are all devastated… probably confidence is low, but you can’t dwell or feel sorry for ourselves.”

“It’s us on the pitch on a Saturday or a Tuesday, we haven’t done in these past couple of weeks. We went through a stage where we did do it, and I’m 100% confident in this group and the staff that we will bounce back.

Lincoln travel to Northampton Town on Saturday, returning to Sky Bet League One action after consecutive cup losses.

“It’s huge, and even yesterday I see my phone and it’s a year ago since Ethan [Erhahon]’s goal at Wycombe, and that can happen again. And we need everyone to stay behind us and get going, we’ve seen last year it wasn’t pretty around Christmas, but this team, this staff, we’re ready to get on a roll,” Moylan said.
