Lincoln United extended their unbeaten run to 14 games, beating Chris Funnell’s Boston Town in a crucial game at the top of the table.
The first chance of the game fell to the Whites when Jack Varley delivered a corner to the near post that was met by Jack McMenemy, but his header was deflected wide.
In the eighth minute, Lincoln United squandered a massive chance to take the lead. McMenemy played through his strike partner Owen Vincent whose effort trickled wide.
The opportunities kept coming and Kelly Fombad fired wayward before Vincent looked to find Jaime Ture with his cross just evading the wingback.
The home side’s first chance of the game came just before the half hour mark. A corner was not cleared by the Lincoln United defence and the Boston forward turned and fired just past the far post.
Lincoln pushed to take the lead before the break and came close in the 40th minute. A corner was recycled back to Paul Grimes who found Henry Moore. His header was straight down the throat of Portas and comfortably held.
Portas was called into action a minute later, as neat play from the Whites caused problems for the Boston defence. McMenemy found a yard and curled towards the far corner, but Portas dived to his right to tip away from danger.
Just before the break, Vincent was fouled as he ran through one-on-one with the ‘keeper. After a stoppage for injury treatment, the referee showed the yellow card to Wilson.

Lincoln United took the lead in the 52nd minute. An Evan Payne long throw into the box caused havoc for Boston’s defence and Ture reacted first to fire into the bottom right corner.
Boston responded well to falling behind, and Harry Limb fired over from 12 yards after hesitation at the back from the Whites.
Just past the 70th minute, it took a remarkable clearance from Moore to deny Limb an equaliser. The forward rounded Jack Steggles and looked to finish into an empty net, but Moore slid in to clear away.
Steggles made a smart stop with his legs a minute later to keep the Lincoln United clean sheet in tact.
The Poachers pushed to equalise but were unable to create anything meaningful and Lincoln United saw out the win, despite a late charge from the hosts
Lincoln United’s next game is away to Hucknall Town this Tuesday, as they continue to keep pressure on the top of the table.
