Lincoln United manager Scott Hellewell was pleased with his side’s defensive determination following their 1-0 win over Boston Town.

The win keeps United’s title hopes alive, with less than eight games remaining in the season.

Speaking after the game, Helliwell said: “I’m delighted. I thought we had the better of the chances and started the second half very well. We had to deal with a lot but defended it really well. It might not have been the best watch, but it’s about the points at this stage of the season against a very good team.

“We rode our luck a little, but we earnt it with our defensive display. We scored at the perfect time and seen the game out. We had to throw bodies on the line and deserved the clean sheet.”

Jamie Ture bagged the only goal of the game, but Hellewell just wanted the win.

“It was a scrappy goal. It’s just fallen to Jamie, stuck his long leg out and got the goal. I’m glad the scrappy goal went our way. Everyone put a good shift in. Elliott Dye leads by example, and we had energy all over the park. That’s all we can expect coming towards the end of the season,” he said.

Lincoln now look ahead to another crucial league game, as the Whites travel to Sleaford in order to Harrowby United on Tuesday night.

The fixture is a game in hand for United, and victory would bounce them up to second and just two points behind league-leaders Eastwood CFC.

Hellewell said: “We have got seven games to go. We want to win the league and to do that we are probably going to have to win seven. Hopefully we can replicate it on Tuesday night and move onto the other six.

“It’s going to be a tough game, and I think we got a bit lucky against them in the reverse fixture, and we are playing on Sleaford’s pitch. It’s going to be a scrap. We will go there full of confidence and hope.”
