Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox thought that his side deserved at least a point as they were beaten 1-0 by FC United of Manchester at the KAL Group Stadium.
The Holy Blues went 1-0 down early in the game as former Bolton Wanderers striker Adam Le Fondre pounced on a mistake in the Trinity backline as he nipped in ahead of David Robson to score the only goal of the game.
A much improved second half from the home side didn’t provide an equaliser for Russ Wilcox’s men and he said: “First half we didn’t look as solid as we have been.
“We set ourselves up to make mistakes by playing the way that we did because we have to be more adaptable in games.”
“I thought our second half performance deserved something from the game but they could have put us to bed in the first half.”
The manager also spoke on what his message was at half time to inspire a reaction in the second half, and he said: “We need to play a bit longer and mix the game up.
“Today is a lesson learnt, when teams play like that we need to play over the press and we were trying to play through the press, but they were sharp first half.
“You need to play in the right areas of the pitch and pick up second ball, we did that second half and thought we were superb, and I can’t believer we haven’t scored a goal.
“A draw wouldn’t have been a disaster, and it would have kept them within a point, this was a bit of a six pointer.”
