Radio 1 DJs Nick Grimshaw launches a new club night and Zane Lowe makes his annual visit to the Engine Shed as part of this year’s Freshers’ Week, starting Sunday, September 18th.
The week starts with the Icebreaker club night as “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant Stevie Starr makes a return from Freshers’ Week 2009 with his regurgitating act.
Monday’s fancy dress night Welcome to L features Dick and Dom (from “Da Bungalow” fame) at the Engine Shed, and the Tower Bar hosts a Rock and Roll Bingo event.
After playing Freshers’ Week for two years running and bringing Radio 1’s Student Tour to the city, Zane Lowe makes a welcome return to Lincoln on Thursday, September 22nd. When he was last in the city, Lowe praised the venue when speaking to The Linc: “I’m not just saying this, but Engine Shed is always strong, I mean that’s really hard to beat.”
Before Lowe takes to the stage, local band Dancing Lotus will be headlining an evening of live music at the Tower Bar.
On Friday, Nick Grimshaw launches a new club night called Stripped, which promises a mix of music including “indie through hip-hop, DnB, dubstep, funk and a little pop thrown in for good measure”.
Other events in the week include a series of film screenings, Engine Shed favourites Superfunk Rollerdisco, Headphone Disco and popular club night Fever Pitch.
You can find out more details and buy tickets for events at the Lincoln Freshers’ website.
Here’s hoping the local businesses do their alternative freshers fayre again this year. Those vouchers were a lifesaver!
