Barry M's 'Confetti' Photo: Rebecca Roe

Barry M Confetti Nail Effects – RRP £3.99  – New to shops this year, this varnish comes in five different shades, the colour shown here being ‘Dolly Mixture’. Though this polish looks great in the bottle, it took three layers to achieve the coverage shown in the image. This was quite time consuming, what with having to wait for each layer to dry. I also found the overall effect quite subtle and was surprised that the confetti strands didn’t stand out more against the white base coat.

Barry M's 'Amethyst' Photo: Rebecca Roe

Barry M Amethyst Glitter RRP £2.99 – I found that this varnish was tricky and time-consuming to remove. Despite this, the effect in the image shown only took two layers of varnish and the drying time was noticeably quick. I thought the glittery effect really made my nails sparkle and it would be a great look for a night out or for a special event. This polish also comes in 17 different shades, ideal to suit personal tastes.

Barry M's Black Nail Effects Crackle Photo: Rebecca Roe

Barry M Instant Nail Effects Crackle – RRP £3.99

This by far was the simplest polish to apply and easiest to remove, hence why it’s got the highest rating. Although crackle polishes have been around for a few years, this is an ideal varnish to consider if you’d like to have an easy manicure with a twist and this particular line comes in six different colour options. When painting the nail, be careful with how much polish you apply as too much or too little paint on the brush lessens the crackle effect.
