It can be expensive to treat your loved one on Valentine’s Day. So here are some cheap and simple recipe ideas for you to try so you don’t burst the budget. Just remember, it’s the thought that counts.

Breakfast: Te Amo Toast 

What you need:
Bread
Jam
Heart Shaped Cutter

What you need to do:
1. Make your toast.
2. Cut a heart into the middle.
3. Cover the toast heart in strawberry or raspberry jam.

Dinner: Spaghetti Bolognese  

What you need:
Spaghetti
Mince
Bolognese Sauce
Vegetables such as carrots, onions and peppers
Garlic Bread

What you need to do:
1. Put the mince in a pan and put the pasta on to boil.
2. Fry the mince until golden brown and add your vegetables.
3. Put the garlic bread in the oven.
4. When the mince and vegetables are done add in the bolognese sauce and leave to simmer.
5. Plate up and enjoy!

Dessert: Heart Cakes

What you need:
Basic sponge cake ingredients of butter, sugar, eggs and flour
Icing
Pink or red food colouring
Heart shaped cutter

What you need to do:
1. Make a cake mixture, put into a cake tin and cook for 20 minutes. Then leave it to cool.
2. Cut as many hearts into the sponge as possible.
3. Decorate with pink icing and leave to set.

Drink: Passion de l’amour

What you need:
Malibu
Apple Juice
Passion fruit Juice
Sugar
Crushed Ice
Cocktail glass

What you need to do:
1. Pour some apple or passionfruit juice in a small saucer and then dip the rim of a martini glass in the juice and twist the glass in the juice and then do the same with white sugar.
2. Pour one part Malibu, one part apple juice and one part passion fruit juice over crushed ice.
3. Delicately place straws into the glass and share with your loved one.
