There are many different hairstyles and many different face shapes, and how well we all carry off our respective styles is largely dependent on the shape of our face. But what are the main face shapes out there and what does this mean in regards to the future of your hair? Let’s find out.

  • The Oval Shape.
Celebrities with this face include Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Rihanna and Queen B herself. Faces this shape will be longer than they are wide, and the forehead will be wider than the chin. This face shape is thought to be the most versatile of them all, as it can handle a host of different styles with flair.  Long tumbling curls, short choppy layers, even slicked back, the oval face will be able to pull it off.

  • The Round Shape.
Cara Delevingne, Kate Upton, Emma Stone and a whole host of other beautiful women have claimed the round face shape for themselves. Long layers that curl away from the face will be the easiest to maintain, but a full fringe that falls below your eyebrows will draw attention to the eyes. Or, if you’re feeling especially daring, try a pixie cut. With a round face you’re guaranteed to pull it off, as all volume will be on top of your head, giving it a more oval appearance.

  • The Square Shape.
If you’ve got this face shape, you’re joining ranks with Miley Cyrus, Olivia Wilde and Jennifer Hudson. Long, loose waves will soften the jawline, and a side fringe will pull the attention up and to your eyes. Poker straight hair is decidedly one of the most unforgiving hairstyles on ladies with square faces, however as Gwyneth Paltrow frequently shows, it doesn’t mean you can’t pull it off.

  • The Heart Shape.
Many of your favourite celebs rock this face shape. Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, just to name a few. With this shape, you’ll want something to draw the attention away from the point of your chin. A soft, thin fringe, a long bob, a side parting with layers, will all draw attention to other points in your face and will stop it looking so wide.

  • The Triangular Shape.
Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung and Rashida Jones are just a few well known women who have this beautiful shape. There are a multitude of styles that can work with this. Layers will generally balance your face out and help soften that pesky prominent jawline, and shorter styles are generally considered more flattering than long hair. Solid bob cuts are also a definite no.

  • The Diamond Shape.
Viola Davis, Scarlett Johansson and Serena Williams all wear a variety of styles with this face shape and all look equally glamorous. If you have this face shape then you’ve likely been blessed with amazing cheekbones, lucky you! Chin length bobs and blunt fringes will serve to widen your face at the chin and shorten the length of your face. With this face shape it’s best to avoid volume on the top of your head, and middle partings.

There are many more face shapes and many more styles out there. But the most important thing is that you love your hair, and wear it with the confidence it deserves!
