1. Dongchuan Red Land – China

These amazing red lands are described as “God’s palette”. Dongchuan Red Land has become increasingly popular with tourists, particularly loved by photographers and backpackers. The best time to visit, however, is during May and June, just before the crops grow.

2. Glass Beach – California, USA

This beach is literally filled with sea glass which has been created from dumping rubbish near the coastline. But don’t worry – the glass is smooth and safe to stand on after a clean-up programme. This would be worth a visit if you’re tired of the same old sandy beach.

3. Hobbit Village – New Zealand

If you’re a fan of the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings trilogies, you must see Matamata! You can take a tour of the movie set and find out how it was all created in those tiny little houses.

4. Thor’s Well – Oregon, USA

In rough conditions, these waves rush into a gaping sinkhole and then shoot back upwards, forming a feature known as a spouting horn. This can be seen by taking the Captain Cook Trail, but obviously you wouldn’t want to get too close!

5. Infinity Pools – Bali

Perhaps a more relaxing choice of travel, if you prefer to sit and lounge rather than explore, are these luxurious infinity pools which offer a peaceful holiday complete with an incredible view.

7. Kawachi Fuji Gardens – Japan

In Kitakyushu, you will find a gorgeous pastel-coloured fairy tale tunnel. The best time to visit the tunnel is April and May, as this is when the flowers are fully bloomed and the colours are plentiful.
