Students at the University of Lincoln have reacted with anger to the news that one of its club nights is to move from a weekly to a monthly basis – with one student branding the move ‘unacceptable’.
The announcement concerned the weekly ‘Anthem’ club night, taking place on Saturdays, and was made by the University of Lincoln Students’ Union (SU) last night on Facebook – with the move particularly angering those who purchased ‘platinum cards’ at the beginning of the year.
‘Platinum cards’ cost £140 and are sold by the SU for students to use as entry for a range of club nights throughout the year including ‘Anthem’, with the card being sold on the premise that it would be a weekly event.
Now though, the SU have announced that they’ll be putting ‘all [their] efforts into one huge monthly party’ instead.
It is understood that refunds will not be offered on the ‘platinum cards’.
One student who purchased a ‘platinum card’ this year, and wanted to remain anonymous, told The Linc that they thought the move was ‘unacceptable’.
They said: “I have messaged the SU directly asking what they are doing in regards of replacing ‘Anthem’ while it isn’t on and I got the response of ‘just wait for the new year’ so I am not happy with how this is being handled.”
‘Anthem’ was introduced as a new club night this year at the Engine Shed after Propaganda, which used to be the weekly Saturday club night, moved to the Moka and Shack nightclub on Silver Street.
The student continued: “I think they should accept they’ve messed up and talk to us, the students, about what we want as a night out. Especially if we have already paid for it in advance.”
The SU have been contacted for comment.
