Goalkeeper Lukas Jensen is aiming to keep seven more clean sheets this season as Lincoln City hunt down a play-off spot.
The Danish shot-stopper has kept six clean sheets in his last seven games, helping the Imps to a 13 game unbeaten that has closed the gap to the play-off spots to just two points.
Speaking after the dominant 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers, Jensen said: “I’m trying to do everything I can to keep the ball out, so when it turns out to be six in seven, obviously it’s a very good result.”
He added: “But, we’re not done yet. We still have seven games to go and I want to get seven more clean sheets. I know it’s very optimistic, but that’s my mentality. I want to get even more and I’ve got 17 now.”
The former Accrington Stanley ‘keeper was called into action multiple times against the Gas, especially by their top-scorer Chris Martin.
Jensen denied the striker from adding his sixteenth goal of the season a number of times, in a performance that earned him another clean sheet.
“I want to keep the clean sheet, it’s as simple as that. It’s a young group of lads and they like scoring goals, I can see that, but when we are three or four-nil up, you can turn the game a bit and say the clean sheet is for us now. So, you’ve still got to work hard and not slack off, and I think they do that,” he said.
“Because it’s a young group of lads, you’ve got to be on them. The experienced players have to that and I think we do that,” the Imps ‘keeper added.
City are just two points off the play-offs spots, but Stevenage had a game a hand that could take them back above Michael Skubala‘s side.
Jensen was sure to downplay the potential of Lincoln reaching the top six, focusing instead on the next game.
He said: “It’s not in our own hands at the moment, we’ve got to do our own job and keep winning. After seven more games, we’ll see where it takes us.”
The Imps now have a weekend without a game before their next outing, due to international call-ups in the Oxford United camp. They face Richie Wellens’ Leyton Orient on Good Friday.
