Lincoln City look to make it eight games unbeaten in all competitions they host Wigan Athletic in SkyBet League One.

The Imps cruised to a 3-0 win in their first Vertu Trophy game against Notts County on Tuesday night.

Captain Sonny Bradley opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games.

Ben House and substitute James Collins added two more in the second half to see Michael Skubala’s men put three points on the board in group D.

Focus switches back over to the league for Lincoln as they host Wigan tomorrow, they currently sit ninth after drawing 1-1 with Mansfield Town last Saturday.

Opponents: Wigan Athletic

Ryan Lowe’s Wigan sit below the Imps in the current League One standings, the Latics have failed to win a league game since match-week three.

They occupy 13th in the league with eight points- winning two, drawing two and losing two in the first six games of the season.

It was a similar story last season for the team in blue and white as they finished 15th with 17 draws- the most in the league for the 24/25 campaign.

In terms of the cup competitions, they progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup by beating Notts County and Stockport County by a goal-to-nil in rounds one and two respectively.

However, on Tuesday night they were beaten 2-0 by Salford City in their first group game of the Vertu Trophy.

This summer Wigan welcomed eleven new faces to the club including former Wrexham striker Paul Mullin on loan.

Dara Costelloe was signed for a fee of £400k from Burnley whilst Ryan Trevitt was loaned in from another Premier League club in Brentford.

Team News:

Lincoln signed three players on deadline day, bringing in midfielder Finley Barbrook, left-back Adam Reach and forward Justin Obikwu.

All of which are expected to be available for selection for tomorrow’s game against Wigan.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, Head-coach Michael Skubala said: “We believe if on the day we can perform in this league with the group we have, we can be a test for anyone. We’ve got a real belief in the building that we can be a match for anyone on the day.

“It was a fantastic atmosphere last Saturday. The players love the fans and that comes from when we are having a tough time, the fans are backing the group.

“The beauty of the connection between the players and the fans for me is when we’re not on it, they dig deep with us and they help us through. It feels like a real connection between the players and the fans this year, which is special.”

Head-to-Head:

In previous encounters Wigan have the edge, winning 16 to Lincoln’s 12- the sides have also drawn on five occasions in the 33 clashes between them.

Both games ended in a draw last season. A goalless stalemate took place last September at the LNER Stadium whilst the reverse fixture saw James Collins net late at the Brick Community Stadium to grab a point for the Imps in a game that finished 1-1.

The Imps haven’t beaten Wigan in five games, last taking all three points from the Latics in a 2-1 win in October, 2021.

Played for Both:

There are a host of names that have featured for both of the League One clubs.

Lincoln captain Tendayi Darikwa and their number eight Tom Bayliss have had spells in Greater Manchester.

Anthony Scully is another player to feature for both teams as he made five appearances for Wigan in a short six month loan spell.

The former Imp had previously been at Lincoln for over two years, where he made over 100 appearances for City.
