Exciting times are ahead for the University of Lincoln’s sporting teams. Chris Farrell, the Students’ Union’s new vice-president for sports, has high hopes for the forthcoming year of sport at Lincoln. After another Varsity victory last year, expectations are higher than ever ahead of the 09/10 sporting calendar.
Chris said: “I hope to create a bigger and more user friendly space in the coming year for the sports and societies. I’m also hoping to increase membership to all sports teams, creating more events not only to play but to raise funds for each team and to see sports teams move up the BUCS league tables over the next year.
“I’m also looking at creating recreational sporting opportunities as well as improve on the relationship with the Sports and Exercise Science Faculty; within the University. By using their knowledge and teaching of aspects within sport such as coaching and psychology, and use this within Students’ Union teams.”
Freshers are urged to join in with the Sports and Societies teams for the 2009/10 academic year. Chris added: “Make sure you come along to the Sports and Societies Fayre during Freshers’ Week. It is on the 23rd September in the Engine Shed from 10am. It will be the place to talk to all the sports and societies that are in the Students’ Union and are there to recruit as many willing members of the Student Body as the physically can. Find a team that takes your fancy and get involved. It’s a decision you won’t regret.
“If you can’t make it on the 23rd, the Sports and Societies Office is open everyday and is based in the SOAP Centre in the Student Centre, where you can find out more information about any club or society, joining, membership or setting up your own club or society. Alternatively you can check out our website.”
