As January rolls in, it’s almost criminal not to be wrapped in at least five layers, with at least one of these being a thick, comfy jumper. Not really sure what style would suit you? Fear not, as this year there’s a knit to suit everyone!
The crop:
I’m sure there are a few of you staring at the screen questioning the practicality of a cropped knit. However, chuck a vest under and team it with some high waisted denim and you’re good to go. The cropped jumper is a more flattering fit than your standard jumper and tends to offer more of a feminine, cutesy feel. If you want to keep it simple, let it hang over a skater skirt and throw on your favourite ankle boots and a denim jacket. If you prefer a more vintage take, crop jumpers look great with “mom” jeans and a silk scarf. If it’s too cold to just rock the jumper, a parka or leather jacket would make a nice addition.
If you’re a girl likes something more unique and luxurious, put down the cable knit and hop aboard the eyelash jumper bandwagon. Fluffy and soft, you can find this trend in every clothes shop on the high street. To add a quirky edge, tuck yours into a tartan skater skirt and stay cosy in thick tights. If you prefer to keep it more sleek, wear yours oversized in a muted colour with leather leggings and cut out ankle boots. A simple, long pendant would look great on top.
The sweater:
It’s not a knit, but it serves the same, snuggly purpose, and they come in a tonne of styles to suit all tastes. A vintage sports sweater (Yak on Lincoln’s High Street do a great range) is perfect for a relaxed 90’s look with rolled up jeans and a backcombed high ponytail, and would make a perfect look for lectures if you’re in a hurry and want to put comfort first. If that isn’t your bag, go for a statement piece with a cute print or sequins with a high bun and boyfriend jeans.
Think oversized. Think chunky cable knit. Think fisherman style in classic autumnal tones. Everyone needs at least one of these old faithful’s residing in their wardrobe. To update yours for the season, team it with a pair of printed tapered trousers and ankle boots. A bowler hat would make a great accessory.
The boyfriend cardi:
If you are going to pop a cardigan over anything this season, make sure it’s big. Primark have a range of slouchy cardigans that look great over a pretty tea dress with thick socks and boots, and Topshop are stocking extra long cardigans that look perfect over midi dresses for a more casual feel.
